Applied Information Technology in Environment and Society (AITES) Research Program

AITES is a research program under the Faculty of Technology, Business, and Maritime Education, Stord/Haugesund University College (SHUC).

AITES is devoted to supporting cross-disciplinary research. Our goal is to deliver cutting-edge research and contribute to knowledge exchange that will help in finding solutions to various social, environmental and economic challenges that lie ahead of our society.

Research areas currently being pursued by team members are

  • Decision support systems with main focus on application of non-classical methods for drawing conclusions in presence of incomplete, inconsistent, contradictory and ambiguous information.
  • Ballast water analysis with main focus on classical and flow cytometry analysis on UV-irradiated phytoplankton cells.
  • Innovation, entrepreneurship with main focus on innovation and entrepreneurship in the maritime sector.
  • Gender studies with main focus on gender issues relating to equality/differences in the maritime sector.
