Course Contents:

English 1, first part for School Years 5-10, (ages 10-16) , is an introduction to language teaching. The course teaches knowledge of the grammatical and phonetic structure of English. Students will develop their personal competence in English, both oral and written, improving their oral fluency; skills in understanding texts and text production.

Learning Outcome:

 Knowledge:

The student will:

  • have basic knowledge of the phonetics, vocabulary and grammatical structure of English together with some of the cultural conventions for the use of English
  • have knowledge of different learning contexts, for example digital media
  • have knowledge of how to adapt teaching to suit the individual student

Skills:

The student:

  • knows correct English and is a good language model for pupils
  • can raise the awareness of pupils about language structure and guide them in their own language development, for example, through the study of contrastive problems
  • can make effective use of pupils¿ experience with English
  • is able to create a safe learning environment with varied, differentiated and meaningful activities, based on theory and their own experience, which promote further development of the basic skills of their own pupils
  • carries out overall evaluation processes and facilitates their own pupils¿ language development through an awareness of the choice of teaching and learning strategies

 

General competence:

The student:

  • communicates relevant subject matter and communicates in English at a level suitable for the target group
  • reflects on their own learning and practice
  • works both independently and with others to solve identified problems related to pupils¿ learning and developing in English

Teaching Methods:

Different methods are used, dependent on what is suitable for the different material taught on the course and applicable for School Years 5-10. This applies to work with both theoretical and practical material.

  • Guidance both individually and in groups
  • Language laboratory:Language practice
  • Information Technology - ICT: ICT is used as the means of delivering information to the students and a means of communication between students and staff. ICT is an integrated part of the work on the course and is used where it is appropriate
