(English)Norwegian language and culture for exchange students
This beginner level course focuses on topics and vocabulary dealing with one´s own person, studies, food, clothing, accommodation, weather, recreational activities and other everyday situations and events. Students will practice a good Norwegian pronouncement and be able to have simple conversations in Norwegian. The most important rules with respect to form and sentence structure are covered in the course. The course also covers elements of norwegian culture and society.
The Norwegian course does not give credits for applicants with Norwegian as their first Language.The target audience for the course are exchange students who will be in Norway for one semester, and who do not plan to take multiple Norwegian courses.
Upon completing the course, students will have knowledge of the Norwegian alphabet, pronunciation rules and linguistic structures of the Norwegian language. Students will know to apply a basic vocabulary, in order to use oral and written basic Norwegian in specific and social situations.
Students will have basic knowledge of Norwegian culture, society and social life.
The student: will learn how to pronounce Norwegian sounds and to understand elementary Norwegian grammar principles. They will learn how to write elementary sentences and they will understand simple messages in Norwegian.
The student: will be able to contribute to elementary communication dialogues in Norwegian and have basic knowledge about the Norwegian society.
Training in communication skills, understanding of oral and written Norwegian, speaking, reading and writing. Practical and individual exercises in and outside the classroom. Training through dialogues and roleplay. Individual supervision and counselling.
It is expected that the students are prepared and participate actively in lessons.
The course requires individual activity between classes.
Practical information about the course:
This course consists of 30 - 40 hours of classroom lectures and activities. The course demands structured homework. In addition to Norwegian language, English is applied as a work language. The students should have good working knowledge of English, as more complex language structures must be explained in English. Knowledge of grammatical terms in English is an advantage.
Recommended Previous Knowledge:
Students will submit written assignments during the course. They will also have to attend min. 75% of the lectures/activities.
