(English)Practical Navigation II
Bridge procedures and delegation of responsibility. Colregs. Search and rescue, procedures for crisis and emergency situation management. Pilotage. The vessel's pivot point, lever arm and torque, turning with constant turning radius and control at reduced speed. Influence of wind, current and depth, including canal effect. Use of anchor, mutual influence of vessels, use of different rudders and propellars, use of tugs, drydocking of intact and damaged vessel.
The students should understand how the vessel¿s different components work together as a foundation for the maneuverability. The y should learn how wind, waves/swell and current affect the maneuverability of the vessel. The students should be able to use the theoretical knowledge of mutual influences of ships, narrow channel influence, shallow water influence, principles for piloting and different techniques for harbor /coastal sailing.
The students should have skills when it comes to sailing in port and maneuvering during different environmental conditions achieved through simulator exercises.
- General Qualifications:
The students should have the theoretical knowledge about navigation, maneuvering, and ship handling as required in STCW 78 as Amended, table A-II/2. This course is in combination with the courses NAB1004 Practical Navigation I, NAB1015 Navigational Instruments I and NAB1016 Navigational Instruments II the foundation for course diploma for ARPA, ECDIS and AIS.
