How should you notify the University when you fall ill?
If you are ill and cannot attend compulsory lessons, practice placement or meet at exams or evaluations, you have to send a written notice to the University College.

If it is impossible to obtain a doctor's certificate, you can use the form for self-certified sick leave here

Send the form as an attachment in e-mail to studenttorg-stord@hsh.no
If you do not have access to the internet, you can send an SMS to: + 47 977 28 717. When you have recovered, you must also notify the University College so that the end date for your sick leave can be registered. Hand in the notification to "Studenttorget" at Stord or ”Ekspedisjonen” in Haugesund or send it by e-mail to: studenttorg-stord@hsh.no or send an SMS: +47 977 28 717.

What to do?

Go home immediately if you get any symptoms of swine flu such as muscle and joint pain, a headache and a temperature of more than 38 degrees centigrade.

Stay at home for seven days after the symptoms appear. This will help to avoid spreading the disease. If you are in the risk group, ring your list doctor or one of the following Emergency Medical Centres to find out whether you need medication.

Stord Emergency Medical Centre: 53 41 63 00

Haugesund Emergency Medical Centre: 52 80 40 00

If you fall ill, or it is less than seven days since you first had symptoms, (and therefore cannot take part in compulsory activities), contact your study programme immediately.

More information and what you can do to prevent spreading:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, particularly if you cough or sneeze.

  • Disinfectants (antibac) are also effective.

  • Cough or sneeze in the crook of your arm if you don’t have paper tissues available.

  • Restrict close contact with people who are ill. If you are sick, you must keep your distance from others to avoid spreading the disease.

Risk groups include:

  • pregnant women
  • people who suffer from severe lung diseases, particularly those with reduced lung capacity
  • chronic cardiovascular diseases
  • low immunity
  • diabetes mellitus (both type 1 and type 2)
  • chronic kidney failure
  • serious neurological illnesses

Contact your doctor if you have severe symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or problems with eating and with drinking fluids.

Make arrangements with your family, friends or others you know so you will get the help you need if your condition gets worse.
